The Cycle of Republican Radicalization



It's funny to read an article like this. It something that is clearly seen throughout the world of politics today, and it is something that is brought up during every election cycle. We keep hearing that politicians are going to reach across the aisle and work together. Heck, that's why Obama was elected, wasn't it?



But instead of hearing that there are people working together to pass bipartisan laws, we hear that everyone in Washington is becoming more and more polarized. Polls, like the ones in the article, ask questions like DEPORTATION OR CITIZENSHIP. With black and white questions like this, the media tries to boil us all down to statistics. What happened to gray area? What happened to a middle ground? Sure, this article seems to poke at Republicans, but don't we see the same thing happening on the other side of the spectrum?



For instance, what about gay rights? You either are completely for full legal rights for all homosexuals or you hate them all personally. What about abortion rights? You either kill babies or you hate women. Is there someone making more money off of our society merely because we are more polarized? I imagine that there is still a middle ground somewhere. That perhaps instead of constantly seeing right vs. wrong we can compromise. But how are we supposed to learn to do this when raised in a society of everyone can be winners and everyone can be right? Perhaps it's something that we are ingrained with at far too young an age to realize that it is happening? Or perhaps people could learn to listen to each other with an open mind and realize that maybe both sides of an argument can have valid points....
